Objective
Seeking a position as a Unix System Administrator and/or an
Intrusion Detection Analyst. While I have extensive WAN
experience I am not interested in a position as a WAN engineer.
Currently I am interested in positions in the southeast.
Particularly Tallahassee, the Research Triangle in North
Carolina, and Atlanta. I would not rule out an international
position. I am not interested in a position in California or
the northeast.
- Experienced with System Administration and security on the following operating systems
- Sun Solaris 2.X, in particular clustering and the E10000 (Starfire)

Networking

- Cisco Routers, everything from 2500 line to the AS5200 access servers to the 7000 series in a WAN environment
- OSPF/RIP routing protocols, in addition I have experience with policy based routing, all running on the Florida WAN
- Firewalls, specifically packet filtering firewalls based on Cisco routers
- TCP/IP networking on all listed platforms, including Multinet for VMS and several TCP/IP packages for MS-DOS/Windows 3.1X

- SLIP/PPP for Internet access over phone lines
- All aspects of the Internet, including SMTP/POP/IMAP, UseNet news,
list servers, and the World Wide Web
- Setting up and managing web servers
- Unix security, including TCP wrappers, SSH, Satan, Tripwire, COPS, SYN attacks, and denial of service attacks among others

- Experienced with the Shadow Intrusion Detection software
- Some experience with Novell and Windows NT networking

Specific Experience
State of Florida, DivCom, Unix Group November 1998-Present
- Responsible for all System Administration functions for the State of
Florida's main web servers and Oracle servers. This includes backing up
with Legato and using Veritas to implement RAID. The Unix servers maintained
are largely Sun equipment, with about 50 servers including 3 domains in an
E10000 and a few Linux servers. Setup Resonate Commander for use on 3 clusters
of machines.
- Also personally responsible for the main sendmail based e-mail server
and running two Real G2 servers, one on Solaris, one on Linux.
Hayes Computer Systems, Subcontracted to Florida Dept. of Management Systems, Division of Communications, Data Network Engineering and Development group October 1995-November 1998
- Responsible for implementation of Florida's Router Transport Dial Access
Program, including System Administration of multiple Solaris and Linux machines.
Also responsible for managing Cisco dial servers (AS-5200's) using SNMP,
Tacacs, and ACE SecurID cards.
- Responsible for managing Cisco Routers connected to the Tallahassee
MAN. Also responsible for managing Cisco Routers which implement the State
of Florida's WAN using SNMP and direct logins.
- Responsible for a mail server used by approximately 5000 customers
- Set up Florida's main DNS servers running bind 8.1.1.
Apogee Systems Inc., Tallahassee, FL September 1994-September 1995
- Installation of Solaris/SunOS operating systems at the customer's site.

Salary requirements
For permanent positions in the Tallahassee area my
minimum salary would be in the $60K range. In
North Carolina or Atlanta it would start at $70K.
A contract position or position for a company that
would require significant travel would increase
this by $10K.
The salary is negotiable but decreases are going to require
benefits significantly above normal or an exceedingly
interesting position.
Hobbies
- Large format photography (4x5) including developing and printing
- Listening to Jazz, Rock, and occasionally classical music with
my cats
- Playing role playing games (D&D type) with my friends
- Cooking, although I am still an amateur
